Where And How To Rent An RV In Ohio

A bunch of RVs to rent in OhioIf you really want to experience the state of Ohio then you need to rent an RV. You have many major cities in Ohio such as Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton to just name a few that have professional and college sports teams. So basically what I am saying is that you have no shortage of tailgating happening on any given weekend. If you don’t own an RV or have a friend or family member that has one then you need to rent an RV to go tailgating. Let’s face it, tailgating is way more fun with an RV.

You also have some beautiful shoreline in the North part of the State. Lake Erie is beautiful in the summer and you have no shortage of activities on the lake. Plus you have no shortage of campgrounds where you can enjoy the lake, days or weeks at a time. If you are in Ohio then you  need an RV or travel trailer.

If you are like me then you have no desire to own an RV because of the work that goes with it and the expense. It’s tough work owning an RV. You have to pay for upkeep, figure out where to store it when you are not using it and do the regular maintenance so it stays in tip top shape. I have no time or desire to do any of that. That’s why I love renting RVs and travel trailers.

You have a few different options when renting an RV:

  • Peer To Peer
  • Cruise America
  • Dealership

Peer To Peer

This one is my favorite. It’s basically Airbnb for RVs and travel trailers. You have an owner that wants to make a few extra bucks and rent out their RV and you have someone that wants to rent an RV. People are really hard to trust now a days, you hear about people being scammed all the time especially with the rise of Craigslist. So you need a trustworthy way to connect the renter with the person that wants to rent out their RV. There are 2 websites that do that for RVs and travel trailers specifically. They are RVShare and Outdoorsy. They are both reputable companies that take care of the two parties and make sure nobody gets scammed out of their hard earned money. I have used RVShare and had a really good experience. You can read about my experience of RVShare here. I have not used Outdoorsy but I have heard really good things about them so I would not hesitate to use them if I saw a really good deal on it. They are both really good ways to rent out and rent an RV. Remember you are dealing with normal people on the other end and some of them will never get back to you if you have a question. So be sure to not wait till the last minute to book an RV.

Cruise America

The next option that  most people will be familiar with is Cruise America. If you have ever seen the movie RV with Robin Williams then you know what I am talking about. You rent an RV from Cruise America and then you drive all around with their name and phone plastered all over it. If you are okay looking like a total tourist then it is fine. I have actually rented from them before and it was actually pretty good. They did not have the peer to peer option then. They are a little bit more expensive compared to peer to peer but you are renting from a reputable company. You will get charged extra for going over the allotted miles and for using pots and pans and stuff like. As long as you plan ahead and don’t go over the allotted miles then you will be just fine.

Dealership

Another option you have is renting from a dealership. Not every dealership does this so you are going to have to do some research before hand. I have not ever rented one this way and I would never have any issue with doing it. It does end up being more expensive than the other two options above but you are usually renting from a reputable company that is able to repair and maintain them onsite. Again my first choice is peer to peer but this is not a bad way to go. Just make sure they have good reviews and remember you can’t make everyone happy and enjoy.

You have many different options when renting an RV in Ohio with the peer to peer option being my favorite. Which ever option you choose just make sure you have fun and be safe.
