The days of renting an RV or travel trailer from craigslist are gone forever. No more setting up a rental and hoping the other party shows up. Outdoorsy is a brilliant way to rent an RV for camping, tailgating or just for an extra room to your house for the weekend. It is the AirBnb of the RV world.
If you are anything like me then you would like to own an RV but:
- Can’t afford to buy one
- Don’t have a vehicle to tow a trailer
- Don’t want to hassle with the maintenance and up keep of owning an RV or travel trailer
Renting is the way to go for you then. With Outdoorsy all you have to do is go to their website and pick the RV you want and pay.
Some of the advantages of renting are:
- If you only have the opportunity to go camping once a year then renting an RV or trailer is the way to go.
- You get to choose the size of the trailer depending on how many people you have
- You will almost always have a new RV or trailer to use
One of the top places to rent an RV is through Outdoorsy

It is a peer to peer RV rental service. So what that means is you have a person that wants to rent their RV and you have a person that wants to rent an RV. So what Outdoorsy does is connect the people via their website. They handle the transactions, money, insurance and most importantly they make sure both parties are covered and that the money gets safely exchanged.
So to rent an RV all you have to do is go to Outdoorsy.com and put in the location you want to rent from. Then a list of RVs and camper trailers will appear with a per night price. Then all you have to do is pick the one that meets your desired needs. A couple things you need to look out for are:
- Do they allow pets?
- How many mile per day do they allow?
- Will they deliver and set up for you?
- How old and what condition does it look to be in?
- Do they have any reviews?
You do have to use some common sense when renting.
A couple things to be aware of are do they have the instant book feature or is it request to book? The main difference is that if it is instant book you are good to go once you book online. If it is request to book you have to wait for the other party to accept and sometimes they never get back to you and accept the request. I always recommend that you contact the rental owner with questions and see if it is still available for the requested dates even if it is instant book. Remember you are dealing with actual people on the other end and not some employee that works for a company.
Some of the great features of using Outdoorsy are
- They have an up to $1M insurance on approved bookings
- DMV check on all drivers
- 24/7 RV rental roadside assistance
- Dedicated customer support team
- Trip insurance
Up to 1M insurance on approved bookings
The insurance begins right when the RV is picked up. I’ll admit that insurance is pretty confusing but if an accident were to happen both parties are covered. Now I do recommend that you read through the insurance information on the Outdoorsy website because I will admit that I am no expert. But what I do know is that it is a great policy that covers both parties. Deductibles that the renter has to cover are high but it’s better than paying for a whole new RV.
DMV Check On All Drivers
In order to qualify for the insurance all drivers must pass a DMV verification. This just ensures that the driver is actually a legit licensed driver and that they have a good clean driving record. If you are renting your RV then this has to give you peace of mind. It’s not the wild west in the renting world and bases are being covered.
24/7 RV Rental Roadside Assistance
They have a network of service providers that will take care of you 24/7 if you need the help. Some of the services covered are towing, jump starts, mobile tire assistance, locksmith, delivery of fuel, and mobile mechanic service. You will also have a 24/7 technical support hotline in case you need some help with some minor stuff such as how to use leveling jacks or how to connect a power supply so you don’t have to bug the owners every 10 minutes.
Dedicated Customer Support Team
The customer support team is there to help you out with anything you may need. If you need help renting the RV and understanding what everything means, they are ready by the phone to help you. They are also able to help you find and theaters or activities that are nearby where you are. Lets face it stuff happens when renting sometimes and they are there to help you or at least point you in the right direction when something happens
Trip Insurance
Again accidents do happen so if you select the trip insurance you are covered. If anything happens to you and you can not make it to your rental on the agreed upon time, which will result in you having to cancel the trip you are covered with the insurance. What is exactly covered you will have to read through it thoroughly. You also have 24/7 emergency assistance and transportation. Again you will have to read through this thoroughly to see everything that is exactly covered. Just make sure you fully understand before you go with it.
What is really good about Outdoorsy is that they are responsive and you usually can get a-hold of someone when an issue arrises. Overall they a great company to coordinate your RV rental through. They have people all over the United States that use them to rent our your RV. Just be sure to not wait until the last minute to rent because that is when you run into problems. Also remember that if you are trying to rent on a holiday in the summer they usually tend to rent out fast and rates are usually higher so don’t be surprised if you see one price and then when you check out you see another price. I always message the the owner first to make sure it is aviable and what the price is even if it is instant book.
RV Owners
I do not own an RV or camper trailer but if I did and I needed a few extra bucks I would not hesitate to rent mine out through Outdoorsy.

If you need help on payments and upkeep then this is defiantly for you. You will see the company throw big numbers out of what people are making. Just remember that those big numbers are from owners that are really working it and they are in popular destinations areas. So use some common sense when thinking about the kind of money you are going to be making.
If you are renting out a camper trailer I would highly recommend you charge a little extra to deliver and set up if the destination is nearby. You are covered by the Outdoorsy insurance if they happen to get in an accident while driving it but who wants to deal with the back and forth with the insurance company. Just deliver and set up and then take down. That way you know everything is the way it should be.
