North Carolina is a very diverse state that has a little for everyone and the best way to experience it is through a North Carolina RV rental. You have the Smoky Mountains on the West side of the state and the Atlantic Ocean with beautiful beaches on the East side of the state. In the middle of the state you have some pretty big cities such as Charlotte and Raleigh which house some professional and college sports teams.
Whether you like beaches, cities or mountain there is something for you in the great state of North Carolina. The great thing about most of NC is that it is affordable unlike a lot of the big cities up North or out West so that is what makes the state so attractive for travelers. The very best way to explore the beaches and mountains is in an RV or travel trailer.
For renting an RV in North Carolina you have a few options:
- Peer to Peer
- Cruise America
- Dealership
Peer to Peer
I am putting this one first because it is my favorite and in my opinion it is the best way to rent an RV right now. You find the best variety of RVs and the best prices. Peer to peer RV renting is basically you have someone that owns an RV and wants to rent it and then you have someone that wants to rent and RV and you need something or someone to facilitate the transaction. It’s just like Airbnb but for RVs. You have 2 main companies that are facilitating the transaction and it is RVShare and Outdoorsy. You basically go to their website put in where you want to rent an RV and they list all of your options with pricing per night. I have used RVshare and had a great experience with it. Read my review of it here. I have not used Outdoorsy yet but I have heard good stuff about them. Just remember you are dealing with people when renting and sometimes they will not get back to you when you inquire about renting an RV. It’s annoying but it’s reality so don’t wait till the last minute to rent and you should be fine.
Cruise America
For a while Cruise America was the only game in town for renting an RV nation wide. So they have created a pretty good name and reputation for themselves. I have rented from them in the past when the peer to peer options was not invented yet. I had a good experience renting from them but I have noticed they tend to be a little more expensive than peer to peer but you are renting from a reputable company that maintaines and takes care of their RVs. You do have to be careful to not go over the allotted miles because they will charge you a lot when you do go over and they will charge you for using extras. Just read over the agreement and plan your trip and you will be fine. You are also going to be a traveling billboard for them with their name and phone number plastered all over the RV.
Dealership
Another option you have is to find an RV dealership that rents out RVs. I have not used this option but I have done research and noticed they tend to be a little expensive compared to peer to peer. You do have to remember that they have overhead to cover and that you are also renting from the reputation of the dealership also. They maintain and take care of the RVs so usually you are getting a good one. Just make sure you are renting from a dealership that has a good reputation and reviews and you should be good to go.
You have several different options when renting an RV in North Carolina with peer to peer being the best option in my opinion. Whatever you choose to do, have an amazing time.
